History of Our Band

The band began as a Joint Drum Corps between two Boys’ Brigade companies

the 94th Glasgow(1st Shettleston) Coy from Shettleston Old Parish Church &

the 284th Glasgow Coy from Barlanark-Greyfriars Parish Church.

Later on the boys were joined by girls from the 67th Glasgow Girls’ Brigade from

Baralanark-Greyfriars and some young people from the local area.

Greyfriars Pipes and Drums Youth Pipe Band was then formed to provide training for young people from the  east end of Glasgow in Piping and Drumming. Most of the members of the band are Boys’ Brigade members from the 94th or 284th but the band has now expanded to include adults and is registered with the RSPBA.

We began playing in public in 2008 at local BB displays, gala days etc. In 2008 we took part in our first ever competitions when the BB members of our band formed a joint mini pipe band and entered Boys’ Brigade competitions. We came 3rd in the Glasgow Battalion Pipe Band competition and 1st in the Mini Novice Pipe Band event at the Scottish Boys’ Brigade Band Competition. We have taken part in a number of RSPBA competitions. In 2009 and 2010 , we took part in the World Pipe Band Championships held at Glasgow Green in the Grade 4B competition.
