History of Our Band

We began as a Joint Drum Corps between two Boys’ Brigade companies :

The 94th Glasgow(1st Shettleston) Company from Shettleston New Parish Church

& the 284th Glasgow Company from Barlanark-Greyfriars Parish Church.

Later on the boys were joined by girls from the 67th Glasgow Girls’ Brigade

from Barlanark-Greyfriars Parish Church and other people from the local area.

Greyfriars Pipes and Drums was then formed to provide training for young people

from the  east end of Glasgow in Piping and Drumming.  The original members of

the band were Boys’ Brigade members from the 94th or 284th but the band has now

expanded to include adults and Non-BB members. We are  registered with the RSPBA.

We began playing in public in 2007 at local BB displays, community gala days etc.

In 2008 we took part in our first ever competition when the BB members of our band

formed a Mini Pipe Band and entered Boys’ Brigade competitions. We came 3rd in the

Glasgow Battalion Pipe Band competition that session  and 1st in the

Mini Novice Pipe Band event at the Scottish Boys’ Brigade Band Competition.

Since then the adult band have taken part in a number of RSPBA competitions.
